Latest News

After the lockdown enforced break Hethersett Athletic players of all ages have now returned to playing the sport they love. Players of all ages have resumed competitive matches and training, with many choosing to make up for the break during lockdown by extending their seasons into the summer. Memorial Park in particular has been abuzz with teams playing and training at the weekends and in the evenings. All are being asked to do so under strict guidelines, with limits on spectators, track and trace in place and regular cleaning of equipment. The majority of games being played are just friendlies, though some junior leagues are running special cup competitions.

The Saturday team progressed into the 3rd round of the Norfolk Junior Cup, overcoming Thurlow Nunn Reserve League side Thetford Town Reserves on penalties. Hethersett created more chances during the 90 than the higher ranked opponents, but were unable to find the back of the net. The full time score was 0-0 and the match went straight to penalties, with Matt Pummell netting the winning penalty. A special mention to goalkeeper Harley Hamill, who saved two of Thetford’s spot kicks, to help see us into the next round.

There was more County Cup success on Sunday, as our Sunday Men's team progressed through to the next round of the Sunday Junior Cup, overcoming Moose Park Rangers 1-0. Sam Cooke grabbed the only goal of the game.
